Hi from Australia!
I can’t make this very long (for one, my computer is dying and for two, I have a LOT of stuff on my to do list) but I wanted to share just a couple of photos and first impressions from the last few days.
As you might know, I arrived in Melbourne on Friday night. The airport was packed… customs was a clusterf*** of people, no lines, no organisation, I’m lucky I even got out, I thought I was going to be trapped there forever. I found my Uber (thank god for Uber, not so much for a very dead phone and the lack of being able to call from a phone number that isn’t associated with my account – didn’t even know that was a thing :/) and found my way to the hostel. Crashed and woke up early ready to take on Saturday and a new country. I spent the weekend there and then picked up a rental car on Monday to head up the Sapphire Coast (you will see why they call it that!).
Here are just a few thoughts:
Melbourne alone is almost more populated than New Zealand. I can’t imagine what Sydney will be like.
It is bloody HOT in this country.
I’ve seen more dead kangaroos on my drive than ever before…
The Sapphire Coast is really sapphire, and the beaches are incredible.
New Zealand may be Real Middle Earth, but at least there, all deadly creatures are fictional. Here, I’m in the Hunger Games and all deadly creatures are very much real. I live in fear that a funnel web spider will bite me in my sleep.
But… I got to see several wallabies the other day, which was very cool!
That’s all for now! I’m taking a brief hiatus to sort out some stuff but will be back with some great new stories next week!
