{this is part of a series i’m doing on my various journals that i’ve kept on my travels. this particular entry comes from my first journal ever, from the trip that i took to new zealand with my parents when i was 9. it’s kind of funny. i’ll actually be combining entries here, because some are so short and kind of odd (my 9 year old self must have thought short sentences and no details made great grammar (and my 25 year old self must think that last sentence made sense…)).}
“on plane:
did part of math homework and watched movie (about skiing again). when movie was over, i wrote in my journal. have 6 more hours to go to get to auckland (really, really, really, really, really boring!)
in auckland:
finally got to auckland. got a taxi van and took it to our hotel. we had about two hours to spare because our room wasn’t ready so we ate lunch and finally went to our room.”
day 3 sunday march 5, 1995 nz/saturday march 4, 1995 us
“i woke up around 6:00 am auckland time and 11:00 am kansas time. i sure am tired. we’re in the regency club so we get to eat breakfast on the 12th floor. we tried to watch cartoons but they were over. around 11:00 am auckland time, we left our hotel and started walking. we reached a park so that we could play and run around, then started to go to a museum and saw a cricket game. ate lunch in a cafe in the museum. there was a childrens discovery place called weird and wonderful. we went in there and saw a sand area where you could be an archaeologist so we played in there and found shells and pottery, even a rubber band! we finally left weird and wonderful. when we left the museum we saw people spinning wool. one person gave us angora (goats wool) and wool (sheeps wool). went to dinner at the clouds cafe and i got a caesar salad. my brother ordered sausage which i hate. i can’t wait to go to sleep (i’m tired)”
{this last entry had not only the aforementioned wool, but also two sugar packets from the hyatt regency in auckland. they’re 15 years old now…}
