i made this up the other day for lunch: i had come home from the gym to find a pretty sad looking fridge, so i thawed some pre-cooked shrimp, sauteed some garlic, added a TON of red pepper flakes, added my gnocchi and tossed in a ton of red sauce. the end result was spicy and super flavourful. AND it only took five minutes. bonus!!
what you need:
a few tablespoons of olive oil.
as much gnocchi for as many people. i use trader joe’s from the pasta aisle.
shrimp. the kind i have gets really small when i flash cook it really fast, so i tend to use a lot. i also prefer to buy already deveined and tailless shrimp, but to each his own.
two garlic cloves, minced, or two teaspoons of jarred garlic.
red pepper flakes, as many shakes as you want. i love spicy stuff.
any veggies you want to add. true to my tastebuds, i love peppadews and a few chopped mini bell peppers.
half a jar of marinara sauce.
what you do:
pour a couple of tablespoons of olive oil into your frying pan and let it heat up. add your garlic and red pepper flakes and saute it a bit. add the gnocchi and give it one minute, then toss in the shrimp. if it’s precooked, it only needs a minute to get warm. add your marinara sauce, mix it together and get that sauce allllllll over.
in the end, mine was too spicy for even my spice-loving tastebuds so i added some creamy goat cheese and mixed it up. delicious!!
wine pairing:
so, admittedly i had this for lunch and had to work later so i didn’t have a wine with this, BUT that being said, you could go one of two ways with this: if you make it super spicy, you could pair a good southern german riesling with it, OR you could go the less spicy route and then pair it with a crisp italian pinot grigio. your choice 😉
